Perception

Even without the benefit of neuroscience, Kant was certain that the intelligent consciousness was an interplay between the incoming sense data and the innate cognitive abilities of the mind. He refuted the argument that sensory experiences imprint in the memory all the necessary knowledge needed to live successfully in the world.

A brief chat with a young Muslim always clears the head. How is belief different from believing itself?

We still build fighter jets even though goosesteps are disappearing by themselves and amazingly there are no shortage of men and women willing to fly them.

Take an artist. He is an artist because he makes things. What he makes may or may not be more interesting than a fighter jet, yet, we do not call a fighter jet a work of art. This is because a fighter jet is a pristine man-made object. In Kubrick's Space Odyssey 2001 a mammoth-bone club, hurled into the air by a chimpanzee rotates, slowly turning into a space station.

A work of art is also an object but it is imbued with the touch of the hands that made it and it is trying to say something about being itself. It is a mystery who the true artist is and where he lives. The cutting edge is so fine that it is quite invisibile.
