The Meaning of Architecture

The 'orders' are actually three and not five.
The ones with the five should be call the 'ranges'
Given that two are derivatives of the original three.

Columns and beams are composed in three essential sets
In the classical language of European architecture.
Their meaning is about the stillness of the moment.

Whatever emotions this instills would seem positive.

Their origins have a parallel in the ancient myths.
Gravity, the great phenomenon, is given three forms
In accordance with its three compositional moods.

Such bold humanism seen in a flash of rare insight
Starts to wane, ironically, during The Enlightenment.
Architecture is made by reason, yet, it is of the essence.

None of this answers the question, why we build?
It is 'the' big question for the discerning public.
When we have an answer, that would be a good moment.

For what?

To go and have some dinner,

Where?

At the Riverside Café.
