For us Montefollonico has a legendary importance because of a friendship with John Greenshields, Adelaide heritage architect, winemaker and a lover of Italy. He once spent time here renting a house nearby, walking to Montepulciano every day. He really loved the experience. We rekindled his memory around 2005 or 6 bringing him back here to have another look. He returned again around 2013 and by then he needed a hip replacement but he braved the pain to walk down, one by one, those beloved stone steps pretending to be just another pile of rocks, as Mike Brown, another frequent visitor to the town, would put it.
