I WISH

It is a sincere wish that all things cohere in architecture if things appear as solid objects when brought out to be tested on the stage of the necessity of artifice and an accompanying soundtrack that might just sweeten what many see as drudgery. How can economics be avoided, if good oil, grain and vines cost something every day, yet brick need be bought just once, so to be laid with the narrowest possible mortar joint?

Musicians model their playing on their favourite grand masters who in turn modelled their greatness on some unheard of examples of inspiring sounds.

Anyway, emulation, is just a word for something else that is going on in the way one starts to see the pathway towards managing that raw passion into making something legible or audible even. One has to find something from somewhere totally unrelated to start in an unexpected way as we find the clothes to fit into a breathing living character.

Hemingway is typing. Where is he typing? He is typing in a room, probably a hotel room, as he waits for his wife to return, in Paris somewhere. You need to sit somewhere in order to write, especially on a portable typewriter. In the twentieth century serious writers wrote on a typewriter, sitting down, while dramatic events, below his window, whizz by his perceptions.

Chamber Music? Where else can music be played except in a chamber - a fancy word for room, yet if we say Room Music? Reverberation is an essential quality that unites space with sound and since the audience has its eyes generally open, sight completes the set of sensory inputs during the Room Music performance. As the eyes relax, abstractions of tone and colour ought to carry the mind into an higher dimension of being.

The room is the habitat of the EGO, the mediator between the ID and the SUPEREGO. Whether we like it or not, in a room design, there are hints as to whom the EGO is trying to impress with the bits and pieces of its composition.
