Two Films

 

Over a film that should have people jumping up and down, there is only silence and that is the name of the film, 'Silence'. Instead all the accolades go to 'Manchester by the Sea' a film that should have made people retire into a prolonged depression.

If you want a timeless piece, one chooses 'Rebecca' with Fontaine and Olivier. What can a critic say - everybody loves it - except to say that it is due to some very good cinematic reasons.

Oh, I don't know. I think both films have certain unavoidable flaws that are in modern cinema generally; too much realism, sometimes horrific, realism. I want some entertaining.

Anyway I don't know if you've seen a 1960's film called 'Life at the Top'. It is a pretty tough film with Laurence Harvey, Jean Simmons and Honor Blackman; very unusual and ambiguous - mid modern period.
