Being and Time
How is it possible that from the billions of human being that have walked only one person emerges thinking he owns the key to success just because he has the gift of thought. Heidegger is proof of Wittgenstein's theory about philosophy; that it is a heap of confusions unresolved because of inadequacies in language. A thought that is more plausible than that of Martin Heidegger himself; that we are here, existing, but do not have the awareness to know of what it means to 'be'. He brings in the obvious link to time as if it weren't so easily obvious somehow. 'Sein und Zeit' is impossible to read. It would certainly have been on top of that infamous list that the Catholic church once kept called Index Librorum Prohibitorum.
How do we account for the absence in Creation of a universal human language? How do we account for the infinite variety of human looks? Stunningly so! Essere sounds more convincing, as words go, than 'to be' about what it means. It sounds similar to esistere - 'to exist'. Scientifically speaking, one exists because of those unspeakably intimate moments that occur between people who then sometimes, as if by an order, become someone's 'parents'. They come to realise that their creation is not only autonomous but imbued with qualities that go far beyond mere physical presence. All theatrical entertainment depends on creating emotionally charged events that ooze out from the wiles of the folks.
Pride, greed, lust, these are what make life, if not serene, at least interesting as human stories. "He was not a fool, he was a poet." To which the man retorts with a question, "What is the difference?" To a less pedantic mind there need not be a difference. A way with words is no guarantee against stupidity in behaviour nor bad character. A thief needs to be nimble. He may steal but also be gentle and kind to those near him. Life is full of improbables. We can only know what is presented within the narrow scope of individual experience. The people we come across are strangers until we begin a relationship. Some we get along with yet with others the words just don't come. We cannot live alone. That much is certain. Some may prefer the distance made closer by electronics. There is a new kind of being on the way but in the end, we cannot go past the limits of perception. We need to touch. We need to live in a real building. The flesh feels protected by the stone. Being and time make more sense when placed comfortably in a suitable setting.
