No man is an island in the sea of glory
Including the shaky wealth of modern banks
Massimo designed a glass house so well
That it looked like the Bank of Scotland.
Or at least that is how I perceived it
And a perception is susceptible sometimes
It is less a faculty, more of a defect
In most people that I would know best.
Massimo's designs were never contemplated
By the likes of Vitruvius nor Alberti,
Least of all my new friend, Andrea Palladio
Who designed more than the Bank of Vicenza.
He, like all architects of old, held a torch
To their souls when in doubt, and prayed
For heavenly guidance of language to reach
Through the vortex from unfathomed powers.
