When you are hot in Hyderabad, you can take yourself down to the stadium and enjoy some T20 cricket. This is cricket for the masses. A test match could go for weeks without a single six being hit. In a 20 over game, the whole thing gets so compressed such that one is obliged to hit sixes or face defeat. T20 is kind of Bollywood-ish in all its contrivances, which includes girly cheerleaders. Yet the teams in the IPL (Indian Premier League) feature most of the best cricketers in the world in a frenetic season lasting about six weeks. The teams are so close in talent that the competition is multi-cultural, colourful, excitingly tight and the outcome of the matches are highly unpredictable. It is unquestionably the supreme domestic T20 tournament in the world.
The Australian batsman, David Warner, who captains the Sunrisers Hyderabad would think it as a major sporting achievement that his initially under-rated team came up tops as the IPL champions in 2016. |
