A Classical Building

The Corinthian Order sits above the Ionic and the canopy is held up by a mutated Tuscan. Conventions are established by precedence but there must be a mystic reason why the Corinthian must always be placed above the Ionic.

This building in its own simplified way echoes the classical canon as established on the tiered facade of the coliseum.

The Prati quartiere in Rome, where this building is located, was developed intensively in the nineteenth century when the mood was decidedly neo-classical.

The model for this particular building is the Renaissance Palazzo with the aedicular detailing around the windows and the use of pilasters, decorated high entablature, standard banding and the rusticating of the building base.

All of which, with a good stonemason and an experienced plasterer, are things that can still be replicated today given the necessary will to turn a building project into an architectural one.
