Pedantics will point straight to the differences between the Gothic and the Classical. They will have a field day here, for the kinship is seldom so explicitly presented. Interestingly it is the Gothic facade that reminds you of a similar shape in Pienza, except the Pienza facade is classical in the Alberti tradition. The classical facade is an extremely correct example of the Greek derivative with pilasters but the real pleasure is in the brick detailing. Remarkable shapes were once readily made in brickyards at relatively low cost and each layering could be custom made according to desired proportions. There is a lot of talk these days of making things fit in, contextually. Here the reality of time passing is given full expression without worrying that much about context. Obviously these two building have the common task of inspiring belief.
I will believe!
